After three days of not having to wake up early to go school, students in some of metro Atlanta’s largest public school districts will have to return to classes on Friday.

Several school districts said they will reopen Friday after closing their doors earlier this week due to a snowfall that created icy conditions on metro Atlanta roadways officials deemed too dangerous for school buses and others to travel.

The districts reopening Friday include Clayton, Coweta, DeKalb, Fayette, Griffin-Spalding, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton, Rockdale and City Schools of Decatur.

Griffin-Spalding schools and offices will have a one-hour delay start time for students and staff on Friday. All afterschool events and activities will proceed as scheduled. Decatur is warning of possible bus delays to due to icy conditions on some roads. Clayton County said its Campus Kids Program will operate as normal and added “families eligible for refunds for days impacted by the inclement weather can expect those refunds to be processed within 2-3 business days.”

Some metro Atlanta school districts held in-person classes Thursday.

Voting groups, including the Southern Poverty Law Center, filed the lawsuit against the Cobb County Board of Elections in 2022, saying the Cobb school board and state lawmakers drew a racially discrimatory map. The school board wasn't a defendant in that case because it is technically not in charge of drawing or implementing the map, a law center spokesman previously told the AJC. (Jason Getz / AJC)
