Atlanta Public Schools issued a statement on social media saying schools that were on lockdown will be dismissed. Officers have been placed at schools, the district said.

APS previously locked down several campuses due to an active shooter in Midtown, according to a notice on the district’s website.

“(U)ntil we receive confirmation that the suspect in the Midtown shooting is contained, Midtown and Washington Clusters (along with Stanton Elementary, King, Wesley International, and Dunbar) will HOLD on dismissal,” the prior notification said.

“Our campuses and buildings are secure, and this action is out of an abundance of caution,” they added.

The district asked families not to check students out for safety reasons. Officials say buses could be delayed as a result of the lockdown. The district also issued updates on social media asking parents to remain in place until further notice.
