See the valentines metro Atlanta students wrote to veterans
Students in Cobb, Douglas and Fulton counties spread a little love this year by participating in the seventh annual “Valentines to Veterans” event, hosted by U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath.
McBath’s office collected more than 1,700 cards from students in 14 schools and constituents who mailed them in to her office. The cards were distributed to several organizations that work with veterans.
“Each year, I am honored to coordinate this event as a small gesture of gratitude for the veterans in our community who deserve to know that they are loved,” McBath said in a news release. “As always, I want to thank every young person who took the time to make a card. By engaging with our students in this way, we can continue to educate future generations about the service and sacrifice our veterans make for this country.”
The cards featured well wishes, gratitude and special messages for those who served in the armed forces: “You’re my hero,” one writer said. Students at the following schools participated this year: Campbell High, Chapel Hill High, Clay Harmony Leland Elementary, Douglas County High, Green Acres Elementary, Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School, the Kindezi School, Langston Hughes High, McEachern High, Morris Brandon Elementary, Oakley Elementary, Riverside Elementary, Stonewall Tell Elementary and Sutton Middle.
The following organizations received cards this year: the Atlanta VA Medical Center, the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
