LowCards.com, a credit card comparison website, surveyed 427 adults about identity theft and its impact on consumer behavior.

It’s estimated there were 13.5 million cases of credit card ID theft in the last 12 months.

Here are some survey findings:

  • 17 percent said someone in their household was victimized by ID theft in the last year.
  • Credit card theft/fraud made up the biggest portion of ID theft at 51 percent. Bank account ID theft was a distant second.
  • 94 percent said they are more concerned or just as concerned about ID theft as they were last year.
  • 28 percent are using credit cards less.
  • 26 percent are doing fewer online transactions, and 25 percent are using cash more often.
  • 38 percent are checking their credit report more often.
  • 52 percent shy away from a store with a reported credit card data breach.
