The Mall of Georgia, which will soon lose one major department store, will gain another next year.

The Gwinnett County mall announced Thursday that Von Maur plans to open in the fall of 2016.

The news comes as Nordstrom plans to close its store at the Buford mall on Feb. 28. The Seattle-based luxury retailer said it is pulling out because sales have not met expectations at the location.

The 165,000-square-foot Von Maur store will be the Davenport, Iowa-based fashion department store chain’s third in metro Atlanta. The chain also has stores at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody and North Point Mall in Alpharetta.

“Von Maur is a well-known fashion department store selling great brands that is known for its customer service., David Contis, president of Simon Malls, said in a statement. “They are a perfect fit for our customer.” The Mall of Georgia is owned by Simon Property Group.

The new store will occupy the space now held by Nordsrom. Renovation will begin this summer. The store will eventually employ 200 mainly full-time associates, the company said.

Von Maur will join other anchors at the Mall of Georgia, including Belk, Macy’s, Dillard’s, JCPenney and Dick’s Sporting Goods. The mall has more than 200 stores.
