Here are some examples of how much consumers would pay if the tax proposal goes through.

Auto repairs

Car parts already are subject to sales tax, but labor is not. On some repairs, like replacing brake pads, labor is the largest part of the bill. On others, like installing a new radiator, the parts are more expensive.

Automotive Web site Edmunds.com estimates the repairs for a 2006 Honda Accord costs $618 per year. If half of that cost came from labor, the new tax would add $43.26 to the annual bill. Your results may vary.

Housekeeping services

If you have a maid service clean your house every other week at $100 per visit, the total extra cost would be $182 per year.

Dry cleaning

A handful of shirts, pants and an occasional jacket can cost you about $30 a month at the local cleaners. The new tax would add $25.20 to you annual bill.

Self-storage

If you pay $70 a month on a storage unit, the new tax hit you for an additional $58.80 a year.
