If you're driving in Cherokee County, it's time to get where you're going, the Sheriff's Office said Wednesday afternoon.

"Avoid everywhere," Lt. Jay Baker said. "But the worst areas so far are from the central part of the county to the north."

Several wrecks were reported as snow continued to fall, and stick, to the roads. Waleska and Holly Springs were among the areas with the most snow, Baker said.

"If you live in Lake Arrowhead and you are trying to get home, you might consider finding a place to stay tonight other than home," the Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page.

Vehicles were getting stuck in the snow on roadways, Baker said.

A winter storm warning run through 10 a.m. Thursday for 50 counties, including Cherokee. Gov. Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency for disaster preparedness starting at 2 p.m.

Forecasters warn that the system could bring accumulations from around 2 inches in metro Atlanta to upwards of 6 inches in the mountain counties. Read more of our weather coverage and updates here .
