The half-inch of rain recorded across parts of metro Atlanta by noon Monday is just the beginning, as forecasters expect the showers to linger through midweek.
Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said the remnants of Hurricane Patricia are responsible for Georgia’s soggy weather this week. The low pressure area was centered near the Louisiana coast early Monday.
Rainfall totals through noon Monday included .74 inch in Dallas, .50 inch in Chamblee, .48 inch in Dunwoody and .46 inch in Cartersville.
Minton said the rain will continue, with a few breaks, through Tuesday into Wednesday. She put the chance of rain at 100 percent Monday and Tuesday and 70 percent Wednesday.
Temperatures will be cool the first part of the week, Minton said, with temperatures holding in the mid-60s Monday afternoon. Tuesday’s morning low will be in the mid-50s, and the mercury will only climb into the upper 50s Tuesday afternoon, Minton said.
Wednesday’s high will be in the low 70s after a morning low in the upper 50s.
In her extended forecast, Minton is calling for a 10 percent chance of rain Thursday and mostly sunny skies Friday, with highs both days in the low 70s and lows in the low to mid-50s.
