The downtown Atlanta location of the troubled Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles restaurants passed its latest health inspection Thursday.

The eatery had flunked three times this year -- twice since October -- but was given a score of 87  during the latest check by Fulton County inspectors, according to the health department's website. That was enough earn the restaurant a B grade.

The iconic eatery, named after soul music legend and Atlanta native Knight, is owned by her son Shanga Hankerson. He was arrested in June after state Department of Revenue investigators said he collected taxes at the restaurant but failed to turn them over to the state.

Hankerson faces two felony theft charges, and nearly $1 million in back taxes, fees and fines and the restaurant went into receivership.

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation found that Hankerson spent on marijuana and sex parties as the restaurant sank, according to witnesses. After his arrest, Knight sued her son in federal court in Atlanta to have her name removed from the restaurant. This led to an ugly public feud between mother and son.

A full report of the inspection was not immediately available.
