Westminster girls hand North Gwinnett its first loss

- Walton beat Roswell 11-9 on March 15 and followed that up on March 19 with a 14-13 overtime win over Johns Creek. Harrison Mills totaled six goals in the two games, with five of them coming against Johns Creek. Bennett Kaufman added three goals in the two games. On Tuesday the Raiders beat Woodstock 14-10. Leaders for Walton were Justin Peterman with six goals and one assist, Cameron Wiley (three goals, three assists) Russell Cobble, Michael Butler, and Harrison Mills (a goal and assist each). Woodstock's Zane Anderson had four goals two assists; Corey Long and Jacob Yoder had two goals. David Shaver of Walton had 12 saves and Matthew Kloess and Nicholas Varghese were 22-of-26 on faceoffs for Walton.
- Westminster hosted the 16th annual Dogwood Invitational last weekend, an eight-team tournament that included four defending state champions: Kentucky's Country Day, South Carolina's J.L. Mann and Alabama's Oak Mountain and Ohio's New Albany. The Lady Wolves defeated Oak Mountain 14-6 then beat J.L. Mann 14-2 to reach the finals, where they beat North Gwinnett 11-10 to hand the Lady Bulldogs their first loss of the season. Wesleyan's Isabelle Dadd, a junior, and senior Sabrina Sparkes earned all-tournament team honors and Sparkes was named co-MVP with North Gwinnett's Shannon Costelloe with 11 goals and three assists. North Gwinnett's Katie Knazek was also named to the all-tournament team, scoring five goals.
- More on North Gwinnett at Dogwood: The Lady Bulldogs beat New Albany 12-7 and Country Day 9-8 overtime, marking an impressive run over two defending champions, before losing their first game of the season to Westminster in the championship. Keepr Samantha Gladstein had a strong showing in the tournament and brought her season save total to 56, while Costelloe brought her season-leading scoring total to 30 goals, and Elizabeth Blumthal brought her total to 21. Junior Madeline Gorke took 64 draws over the tournament.
