Week 4 offered more key victories for schools that have paved impressive paths to open the 2017 season. In Region 1, Northside-Columbus moved to 3-0 for the first time since 2010 with a 35-14 win over Jordan. The Patriots finished third in Region 1-AAAA last season but will enter region play next week as its only undefeated team. In Region 2, Howard has strung together a 3-1 start after finishing last year 1-9. Spalding has also proven capable of shaking up the playoff picture after scoring a 42-41 win over Lovejoy this Friday. After scoring just seven points in its losses to Griffin and Jonesboro to open the season, the battle-tested Jags erupted in this notable win over Class AAAAAA Lovejoy. In Region 3, Baldwin, Burke County, Richmond Academy and Thomson remain unbeaten. In Region 3, Baldwin, Burke County, Richmond Academy and Thomson remain unbeaten. Thomson’s intriguing matchup with Pace Academy was cancelled this Friday, which will be an interesting aspect of the season considering the Bulldogs have back-to-back bye weeks before their next game which isn’t until Sept. 29 vs. Clarkston.

Woodward Academy is Region 4’s only unbeaten team remaining, and it took a shootout for the War Eagles to survive Riverwood 39-34 on Friday. Cartersville demolished Westlake for the second straight season and looks to be even better than the last two Purple Hurricanes teams that ran the table. Sandy Creek, however has only allowed 17 points in its 3-0 start and has a defense that looks capable of stopping any team not called Cartersville.

In Region 6, Ridgeland has dominated in its 4-0 start with a 159-21 scoring advantage over its opponents. Heritage-Catoosa has also kept a clean slate through the first four weeks of 2017, but after falling 56-14 to Ridgeland last season, there could still be a sizeable gap between the Generals and their strongest region opponent.

Region 7’s Marist survived a 17-14 battle with Region 8’s St. Pius and Blessed Trinity rebounded from last week’s loss to Marietta by handing Creekview its first loss of the season 28-21.

The 14 undefeated teams remain as we head into Week 5.
