The Clarkston boys won their 11th game in a row and snagged the No. 1 seed out of Region 6-AAAAA when it toppled McIntosh 3-1 last Wednesday. The Angoras will host East Paulding in the first round of the state tournament before a potential date with either Starr's Mill or Statesboro. McIntosh, meanwhile, will kick off its campaign at home against South Effingham.
Westminster and Greater Atlanta Christian, the respective top two teams in Class AAA and AA, prepared for the postseason with a head-to-head showdown last Wednesday. Once rivals in the same region but now separated in classification, the two teams battled each other to a 1-1 tie. Westminster will host Johnson-Augusta in its first-rounder, while Greater Atlanta Christian is set to entertain Manchester.
The Harrison girls, undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the highest classification, hosted Class AAAAA No. 1 McIntosh last Wednesday. Enjoying home-field advantage in their final regular-season game, the Hoyas took care of business via a 2-0 score. They will host Westlake in the first round of the state tournament before possibly running into John’s Creek or Milton.
In Class AAAA, the top two teams heading into state both hail from Region 6. Marist, ranked No. 1, hosts Sandy Creek in its opening match and is on a collision course with fifth-ranked Veterans for the quarterfinals. Second-ranked St. Pius is in a tough quarter of the bracket along with fourth-ranked Buford and No. 6 Pike County.
