Here are some of the top games involving Class AAAAA basketball teams this weekend:
- Heritage-Conyers at Salem, Friday (boys): No. 10-ranked Heritage (17-6, 9-4) started the season 15-1 but has gone 2-5 since. The Patriots will try to regain some momentum for the region tournament when they face a Salem team that beat them 63-62 in overtime on Jan. 19. Salem (15-9, 9-4) is 6-2 in its last eight games and has moved into a tie with Heritage in the 8-AAAAA standings.
- Northside-Columbus at LaGrange, Friday (boys): LaGrange (19-5, 8-3) was alone in first place in 1-AAAAA until a loss to Harris County on Tuesday dropped it into a tie with Carver-Columbus. The Grangers can clinch at least a share of the regular-season title with a win against third-place Northside (16-7, 7-4). A victory by Northside likely gives the regular-season title to Carver.
- Brunswick at Glynn Academy, Friday (girls): Top-ranked Glynn Academy had a chance to clinch the No. 1 seed for the 3-AAAAA tournament, but a loss to Camden County on Tuesday left the Red Terrors (21-2, 11-1) just one game ahead of Brunswick (22-2, 10-2) and South Effingham (21-2, 10-2). A Brunswick win would create a tie for first place that would be broken by a coin flip.
- Alexander at Hiram, Friday (girls): Teams in 5-AAAAA play more region games than anyone in Class AAAAA, and Hiram (21-3, 17-0) has a chance to complete a perfect region season when it meets Alexander (9-14, 8-9) in the regular-season finale. Hiram, which beat Alexander 65-33 on Dec. 11, went 17-1 in region play last season and won the region tournament.
