The teams to beat in Class A are evident by GHSF Daily's preseason all-state teams.
In the private-school division, defending champion Eagle's Landing Christian is represented by five players, three in the secondary - Tre Douglas, Khaleb Hood and Josh Mays. Also making it for the Chargers are RB Trevor Gear and PK Alex Usry.
In the public division, Macon County sports five players led by QB K'hari Lane, who passed for 3,250 yards last season on a team that went 10-3 in Class AA, losing to eventual champion Pace Academy 33-26 in the semifinals.
Defending public champion Clinch County has three members of the team, including 1,600-yard rusher Shannon Young. Also placing three players is Commerce, which lost to Clinch 26-19 in the semifinals a year ago.
A few Class A preseason all-staters are major-college prospects. Terrell County's Tray Bishop (to Auburn) and Macon County's Christian Meadows (Florida State) committed last week. Marquez Bembry of Mount Vernon Presbyterian has committed to Tennessee, Zach Quinney of Savannah Christian to Georgia Tech and Evan Reese of Savannah Christian to Tulane.
