The Georgia High School Association is waiting to get the officials’ report from Friday night’s Pace Academy-Towers football game – which was ended in the second quarter after a fight broke out among players – before deciding which team will advance to the state playoffs next week.

Pace, which  led 27-6 when the contest was stopped and declared over, is the presumptive winner in the game that was to decide the fourth and final playoff berth out of Region 5-AAA. Both teams entered with 3-3 region records.

‘’I haven’t got the report yet, but from what [the head of the officials association] shared to me, it’s going to have to be an official game because one team [Pace] was way ahead, and the other team didn’t have enough [players] to finish,'' said Tommy Whittle, the GHSA's association director and football coordinator. "But until I see the report, I'm just guessing.’’

And in the meantime, the GHSA has posted the Class AAA playoff draw, but with a space open for Region 5's No. 4 seed, which is slated to play at No. 1-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian in the first round. All other places on the draw were filled late Saturday.

Players who enter the field from the sidelines to join an altercation are ejected and face sit-out penalties for the next game. Whittle was unsure of the ejection numbers on each side.
