Pace Academy and Lassiter are in the football state playoffs, the Georgia High School Association made official Monday in separate cases that required extra attention.
Pace is the No. 4 seed from Region 5-AAA while Lassiter is the at-large team in Class AAAAAAA.
Pace’s game Friday against Towers was stopped with Pace leading 27-6 the second quarter after a fight broke out among players from both teams. After reviewing the game report, the GHSA declared Pace as the winner by score of 27-6. Through ejections, Towers did not have enough players to continue.
Pace also suffered ejections, and four players will not be eligible for the first-round playoff game this week against No. 1-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian. The GHSA applies mandatory sit-out penalties on ejected players.
Lassiter, as expected, was declared the at-large or wildcard team in the highest classification. That was determined by the GHSA points system contested among fifth-place teams from seven regions and the fourth-place team from four-team Region 1. Lassiter’s 6-4 overall record gave the Trojans the inside track.
Lassiter will play at No. 4 McEachern on Friday.
