The weekend will bring some big girls games (Wesleyan at Lovett, Thomasville at Early County) with big region implications. But Tuesday’s marquee is all about the action on the boys side, starting with No. 1 vs. No. 3.

Also below: this week’s schedule for all the top-10 teams, and a look back at last week’s top performers.

No. 1 Pace Academy at No. 3 Holy Innocents’

Since a loss to Class AAAAA North Atlanta on Dec. 27, top-ranked Pace Academy has been on a tear. The Knights have won 11 consecutive games since then, including seven by at least 20 points. A twelfth straight win on Tuesday would likely guarantee the regular season crown in Region 6-AA.

No. 3 Holy Innocents’ sits two games behind the Knights heading into Tuesday’s game. Pace Academy won the first meeting, 59-48 on Jan. 6, but the Golden Bears haven’t lost since.

Both teams have the benefit of multiple scoring threats, but the most obvious matchup to watch is how Holy Innocents’ handles Pace Academy big man Wendell Carter. Carter, a 6-foot-10 sophomore ranked among the nation’s best, had 24 points, 25 rebounds and six blocks the first time these teams met.

No. 10 Harlem vs. Dublin

There’s a three-team race for the top spot in Region 3-AA, and the loser of Tuesday night’s Harlem/Dublin game will be on the outside looking in as we enter the final stretch of the regular season.

Swainsboro (7-1 in region) currently holds a half game lead over No. 10 Harlem (7-2) and a full game over Dublin (6-2). Harlem, which lost to Swainsboro and Dublin the first time around, evened the score with Swainsboro last week and would love to do the same with the Fighting Irish on Tuesday.

Dublin (14-8 overall), winners of four straight, wants to push the pace. The Irish lead the region in scoring by a wide margin, averaging 82.6 points per game, while yielding 71.5. They won, 83-80, over Harlem in the first meeting on Jan. 10.

Harlem (18-3) comes in on a five-game winning streak since the loss to Dublin, winning by an average margin of 25 points per contest. Senior point guard Reggie Reid is the Bulldogs’ go-to scorer, and averages near double figures in rebounds and assists, as well. Senior Torien Beard is also a potent threat, and scored a season-high 28 points in the first game against Dublin.
