North Forsyth named Robert Craft as its head football coach on Friday morning, the Forsyth News first reported.
Craft has been head coach of his alma mater, North Florida Christian in Tallahassee, Fla., the past six years, winning a state championship in 2011.
Craft, a former standout quarterback at Tennessee Tech, was Colquitt County’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2005 to 2009. The 2009 team, which was coach Rush Propst’s second at Colquitt, resulted in an 11-3 finish and run to the state semifinals.
The move to North Forsyth, which was 2-8 last season, returns Craft to Georgia’s highest classification.
“There's definitely something about being part of the largest classification in Georgia, in such a talent-rich state, a state that, in my opinion, plays some of the best high school football in the country,'' Craft told the Forsyth News. ''Plus, I think the area is a growing community. I just picture that the best is yet to come here.’’
North Forsyth reached the Class AAA semifinals under current Gainesville coach Bruce Miller in 2001 but has been has won only one playoff game since under four head coaches, most recently Jason Galt, who was 10-21 in three seasons.
