Mount Paran Christian’s high-powered offense didn’t get a lot of opportunities Friday against Trion’s ball-control running game, but the Eagles made the most of their chances and found plenty of other ways to score.

Third-ranked Mount Paran got a three long touchdowns from Emoni Williams and scored on returns of a kickoff, a fumble and an interception to roll to a 42-0 win.

The victory moved Mount Paran (8-0, 3-0) into a tie for first place in Region 6-A Division A with Mount Zion-Carroll, which was idle on Friday. The two teams will meet next weekend at Mount Zion for the subregion title and a spot in the region championship game on Nov. 7.

Mount Paran had the ball for a little more than 11 minutes for the entire game and ran just 20 plays compared to Trion’s 67, but the Eagles finished with a 264-207 advantage in total offense and had control of the game by midway through the second quarter. The Eagles, who came in averaging 47 points per game, played without running back Dorian Walker, but they didn’t need him. Walker rushed for 1,127 yards in the first seven games but was held out with a minor knee injury.

“[Trion] sustained some drives and kept the ball away from our offense,” Mount Paran coach Mitch Jordan said. “They play a very physical brand of football, which is good for us. We haven’t seen that style of play, so I think that’s going to benefit us in the long run. We were fortunate to make some big plays and get a lead, but Trion kept fighting the entire game.”

Mount Paran led 21-0 at halftime and added two more touchdowns in the first six minutes of the third quarter without running a play. Emoni Williams returned the second-half kickoff 81 yards to make it 28-0, and Taylor Trammell returned an interception 77 yards for a score on Trion’s next possession.

Williams scored on a 57-yard pass from Jake Allen in the second quarter and had a 69-yard touchdown run with 2:32 remaining in the game. The Eagles’ other touchdowns came on a 12-yard run by Reed Massey and a 76-yard fumble return by Nick Sbravati in the first half.

Williams led Mount Paran in rushing with 88 yards on two carries, and Trammell rushed 11 times for 80 yards. Allen was 3-for-3 passing for 85 yards.
