The Milton girls and Starr’s Mill boys won their divisions at the recent Deco Turf High School Tennis Team Championships in Chattanooga.
Milton’s Morgan Liptak and Starr’s Mill’s John Hunter were each named MVPs for their respective teams. Etowah’s Mallory Gilmer was awarded the Hannah Belsinger Spirt of Tennis Award.
In the Girls A Division, Etowah finished second behind the Baylor School of Chattanooga. Etowah beat Walton 5-4 in the quarterfinals and defeated McCracken County, Ky., 5-4 to reach the championship round, where the Eagles lost 7-2. Walton finished fifth, defeating Huntsville 6-3, and Cambridge placed eighth.
In Girls Division B, Milton emerged as the champion. Milton defeated Soddy Daisy, Tenn., 6-3 in the semifinal and Morgantown, W.V., 5-4 in the title match. Starr’s Mill was fifth, beating Russell, Ky., in that consolation match 5-4.
In Boys Division A, Lakeside Evans finished third by defeating Baylor in the consolation final. Etowah placed seventh, beating Memphis University 5-4 in the consolation. Brookwood finished 12th and Cambridge placed 16th.
In Boys Division B, Starr’s Mill won the title by beating Edmond Memorial, Okla., 7-2 in the final. The Panthers topped McCracken County 8-1 and Pensacola (Fla.) Catholic 9-0 to reach the championship.

Colquitt girls win Gwinnett Open
The Colquitt County girls won the Gwinnett Open at Chateau Elan. The Packers topped 18 other girls teams in the tournament played at Chateau Elan. The tournament used a points format rather than strokes and Colquitt posted 93 points to beat Calhoun by three and Mill Creek by eight. Elizabeth Funderburk shot a 74 and scored 36 points to lead Colquitt County.
Gordon Lee Takes First
Gordon Lee won its own tournament, taking the Gordon Lee Invitational at Canyon Ridge Golf Club. Gordon Lee shot a 315 to beat Heritage by one shot and LaFayette by six.
The medalist was Sport Allmond of Heritage, who shot a 5-under 67. Justin Hickman led Gordon Lee with an even-par 72. LaFayette got a 76 from Gage Smith.
Valdosta, Colquitt first at Lee County
The Valdosta boys and Colquitt County girls won the Lee County Trojan Invitational at the Grand Island Club. Valdosta shot a 307, with Lowndes and Tift County tied for second. Luuka Alakulppi shot 69 to lead the Wildcats. Colquitt’s girls shot a 230, with Valdosta finishing second. Elizabeth Funderburk was medalist with a 69.
