Here are some of the top games this weekend and early next week.
BOYS
No. 6 Our Lady of Mercy at Walker, Saturday. Mercy (15-3, 6-2 in Region 5) is looking to improve upon its best season in school history and continue its climb up the Class A Private School Power Ratings, where the Bobcats sit at No. 6. Walker (13-5, 5-3), led by 6-foot-10 Harvard commit Robert Baker, is at No. 17 in the power ratings, one spot out of the playoffs. The Wolverines need a win over a quality opponent to jump back into the top 16. Mercy won the first meeting, 68-51, on Dec. 12.
First Presbyterian Day at No. 7 Wilkinson County, Tuesday. Wilkinson County (15-5, 6-1 in Region 7), No. 2 in the Class A Public School Power Ratings, is poised to win the program's third state title in four years, and its eighth overall. FPD (13-7, 5-3), No. 14 in the private power ratings, could use a win over a quality opponent to solidify itself in the top 16. Wilkinson County was a 58-57 winner when the teams met on Jan. 15, in Macon.
GIRLS
No. 4 Greenforest Christian at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, Monday. Greenforest (18-0, 8-0 in Region 5) will try to keep its dream of a perfect season alive with a late-season test in McDonough against the Chargers (11-5, 5-1). The Eagles, No. 1 in the Class A Private School Power Ratings, will go into the contest having won its last three games by an average score of 62-20.
No. 10 Commerce at Lakeview Academy, Tuesday. Commerce (13-4, 8-0 in Region 8) has climbed into the top 10 and could be a dark horse in the race for the public school title. Lakeview Academy (16-6, 9-1), No. 7 in the private school power ratings, has put together a solid season as well, but lost to the Tigers in the teams' first meeting, 62-50, on Jan. 16.
