Maxwell Week 7 Summary: Mays and Roswell ride big wins

The Maxwell Ratings will rank Georgia's 417 teams throughout the 2015 season. The ratings are based entirely on historical performance and on field results and do not consider personnel changes on the roster or coaching staffs.

Interesting results from this past week:

- Mays turned a solid 41-21 win over Creekside into a 3.51 point gain in the ratings, good enough to leap from #4 to #1 in Class AAAAA.  Still, the race is wide open at this point with less than 10 points difference between #1 Mays and #11 Northgate, the largest such grouping around the top team in any classification.

- Roswell crushed previously undefeated Walton 48-14 to jump over 6 points in the ratings and into the #3 spot in Class AAAAAA and overall.  Currently Roswell has a rating of 89.00, which would be their second highest rating ever if the season ended today.  Their 2006 team that went 13-1-1 had a rating of 90.20 and tied Peachtree Ridge for the state title in Class AAAAA, the largest classification at the time.

Maxwell GHSA Football Ratings

As this season's games are played, the Maxwell Ratings will be based on a modified logistic regression of the current football season's results in combination with each team's historical performance. More recent games and games against similarly rated opponents carry more weight and the weight of each team's historical performance diminishes as the team's season progresses.

The current total weight of all team's historical performance is 14.94%.

For the current season, the ratings accurately account for the winner of 1,047 of 1,120 total games including 1 tie(s) (93.53%) and accurately reflect approximately 68.3% of all game margins within 12.29 points.

The ratings are scaled so that 100.00 is the rating required to win 91.5% of all games in an infinite round robin tournament against all teams in the highest classification. The schedule strength is the rating required to win 50% of all games in an infinite round robin tournament against a particular team's opponents.
