Two top 10 teams may be making an exit from the polls after losses this week.

No. 10 Macon County lost for the second week in a row, this time in convincing fashion to No. 2 Fitzgerald. The Purple Hurricanes won 57-32.

Winless McIntosh Academy County stunned No. 5 Vidalia, 15-14. The Indians - like Macon County - fell to 2-2.

Along with Fitzgerald, the rest of the top 10 teams won.

No. 1 Benedictine did nothing to relinquish its title as the state’s best, dominating Bacon County, 49-15 in its Region 2 opener.

GAC stopped unbeaten Hapeville Charter’s momentum, as the No. 3 Spartans won handily, 43-15.

No. 4 Pace Academy took care of business against Holy Innocents, 26-0, ahead of next week’s big test in No. 9 Wesleyan.

The Pace at Wesleyan matchup is a great barometer for Region 6. Both teams are undefeated and both appear worthy candidates to make a deep state playoff run. Pace Academy has two region games under its belt, having beat then-ranked Lovett in addition to Holy Innocents.

Wesleyan beat K.I.P.P. 38-6 in its region opener.

No. 6 Rabun County pitched a 42-0 shutout over Riverside Military, and No. 7 Darlington edged Bowdon, 18-7.

No. 8 Dublin won 28-3 over Bleckley County, setting up a showdown next week with undefeated Metter.

Dublin won last year’s matchup with Metter by two scores, but if Metter can pull off the home win, it will shake things up in the region. Unranked Metter is long overdue for a victory in the all-time series, its last win coming in 1931. Metter’s 21-14 loss in 2014 is the closest it has come against Dublin since the series began, so maybe this is the year Metter closes the gap even more and steals a victory.
