Oconee County got a last-second 46-yard field goal from Mehran Ahmadipour to beat Morgan County 33-31 and keep its dreams of an undefeated season alive.
Morgan had taken a one-point lead on a 45-yard field goal with 40 seconds left. But Oconee County (7-0) rushed downfield behind a pair of completions from quarterback Zeb Noland, one to Roques Dowdy, the other to Andrew Shuford, and sent Ahmadipour onto the field for the do-or-die kick.
BT nails down subregion title
Blessed Trinity’s Pat Jasinski is better known by his skills at linebacker. That’s what helped him nail down a scholarship with Central Florida. But his pass catching ability will never be forgotten by rival Westminster.
Jasinski caught two touchdown passes, one of them a long 78-yarder, that proved to be the difference as No. 3 Blessed Trinity beat No. 6 Westminster 23-11 in a Region 4 showdown. Conor Davis hit Jasinski in stride down the right sideline and he shook a defender to score on the momentum-changing play. Jasinski caught a 12-yard touchdown with 20 seconds left to seal the win. Jasinski had four catches for 108 yards.
The Blessed Trinity defense came away with three pass interceptions and got three field goals from Mitchell Rostwsky, as the Westminster defense dug in its heels.
The win means Blessed Trinity (7-0) will win Region 4-AAA Div. B, while Westminster (7-0) will wind up playing on the road in the state playoffs.
Four TDs for Jefferson’s Williams
Sammy Williams rushed for 136 yards and four touchdowns and helped No. 4 Jefferson (8-0) slam East Jackson 63-0. Quarterback Evan Shirreffs completed 8 of 11 passes for a touchdown. The Dragons rolled up 378 yards and set up next week’s showdown with undefeated Oconee County.
Peach rides Lowe to easy win
Peach County hasn’t been behind often this year, but the Trojans trailed for much of the first quarter against Jackson before reversing the momentum a rolling to a 52-17 win. Running back Keyshawn Lowe scored on runs of 25, 25 and 12 yards to spark Peach (8-0). Robert Allen ran for two scores, with James Jackson and Tyrique McGhee each adding one touchdown.
Six straight wins for Cook
Cook spread the ball around and used the balance to take care of Appling County 44-14 and win its sixth straight. The Hornets (6-2) were led by quarterback Conor Hilliard, who completed 5 of 7 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown. The running game got 62 yards and one touchdown from Tavian Allen, who also had 66 receiving yards, and Jay Smith, who carried 14 times for 75 yards and one touchdown. Cook as the big Region 1 Div. A showdown against No. 10-ranked Dodge County next week to determine the subregion champion.
Laney makes it five straight over Josey
Laney continued its dominance over rival Josey with a 41-0 romp in the annual “Battle for the Tracks,” as junior linebacker Rashad Muhammad led the way by recovering two fumbles and returning them for touchdowns. The Wildcats also scored on a 40-yard run Vicente Thompkins, a 15-yard reception by Andre James, a 9-yard run by Levin Lackey and a 10-yard run by Joshua Martin. Laney (4-3) has now won five straight in the series.
Central Macon keeps hopes alive
Central Macon remained in the hunt for the final playoff spot in Region 2 by beatin Southwest Macon 37-0. The Chargers got 137 yards rushing from Jeremiah Daniels and quarterback Derrick Evans completed 9 of 18 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns. The Central defense held Southwest to zero rushing yards.
