West Forsyth put an end to Buford gymnastics’ three-year state championship streak, and in doing so, brought home the school’s first team state title in any sport. The Wolverines (114.167) outscored Buford (113.043) and the remaining field of six teams (Centennial, Lambert, Forsyth Central and Northview) with immaculate performances from Sienna Schreiber and Aundria Crittenden. Crittenden led West Forsyth on the vault with a 9.9 before Schrieber stuck a 9.767. Schrieber, a sophomore and Missouri-commit scored a perfect 10 on the floor routine before Crittenden added a 9.9 to the Wolverins’ textbook night. Schrieber did not qualify to compete for the individual state title on the floor and so Crittenden’s 9.9 won the individual championship.
Buford’s Lyndzi Jones won the individual beam title with a 9.7 and Wolves teammate Cyrena Whalen won the uneven bars with a 9.9. Schreiber won the All-around title with a combined score of 39.194.
These girls have worked so incredibly hard," Owens told Forsyth County News. "Their dedication to their sport, pushing through injuries – they're an inspiration. These girls are an inspiration, and I just could not be more proud of them if my life depended on it."
