Day 2 of the GHSA Girls Track & Field Championships in Albany saw more champions crowned. Field event finals for Class A-Public, A-Private, AAAA and AAAAAA all took place in the early part of the day.
In the Discus Throw, Chelsea Igberaese of Dacula tossed a 142-00 to win the Class AAAAAA title. First Presbyterian’s Maggie Johnston crushed the field with her 144-05 throw in the Class A-Private championship. Second-place went to Mary Wilson Avant of Stratford Academy with her 128-08 mark. Makenli Forrest won her second title of the day with a 133-08 throw in the AAAA finals. Marion County’s Ansley Whitley took home first in Class A-Public with a 111-10.
Imani Carmouche scored 10 points for Mt. Zion-Jonesboro with her first-place finish in the Class AAAA High Jump with her 5-08 leap. It came down to the wire in Class AAAAAA as Jada Watson (Westlake) beat Aliyah Whisby (East Coweta) in a jump off. Watson won it with a 5-06.00. Summer Hendley placed first for Savannah Christian with a 5-02.00. Georgia Military struck gold with Calli McMullen’s 5-00.
A state record was set in the Class A-Private Pole Vault as Carson Dingler (First Presbyterian) cleared 13-02 to take the gold. Another Viking finished second with Madison Griffin going 10-00. Commerce’s Anna Hardy won the A-Public title with a 7-06. Rachel Sherrill (Dacula) cleared 11-06 while Alex Potts (Woodward Academy) also went 11-06.00 to win their respective titles.
Nia Seldon hurled a 44-07.00 for Marietta to win the Class AAAAAA Shot Put. In AAAA, Makenli Forrest notched 10 first-place points for Woodward Academy with her 45-00 throw. Class A-Private saw Abigail Rogers claim first for ELCA with a 42-00 and in A-Public it was Tynesia Whitehead (Turner County) tossing a 34-03.00 for the win.
In the Triple Jump, Jordan Allen of Tattnall Square notched a 38-04.25 to win the Class A-Private title while NyAsia Howard (Telfair County) went 35-07.50 for the Class A-Public championship. Brookwood’s Brianna Isles went 40-00.25 for the AAAAAA title while in AAAA it was basketball star Tyeisha Juhan of Mt. Zion Jonesboro going 40-04.25 for the championship.
Westlake picked up 10 valuable points with Kennedy Simon’s first-place finish in the Long Jump with a hop of 19-02.25. Summer Hendley won the A-Private event for Savannah Christian with an 18-0.50. Jahari Williams (Monroe) scored first in AAA with a 19-08.00 and in A-Public it was Telfair County’s Brandy Mackey winning with an 18-01.00.
Champions were crowned in the 1600 Meter Run in Class AAAAA, AAA and AA. Alyssa LeClaire (McIntosh) posted a 5:05.95, Morales Sue Ann (East Jackson) raced by the AAA field with a 4:59.76 and Serena Tripodi (Lovett) breezed by the AA competition with a 5:04.00.
The 3200 Meter Run was highlighted by Emma Grace Hurley’s state record of 10:33.23 for Fellowship Christian in Class A-Private.
