Trevor Lawrence of Cartersville and Emory Jones of Heard County are two of Georgia’s most highly rated high school quarterbacks. ESPN will be coming to Cartersville on Aug. 26 to televise their games.
Heard County will play Saraland of Alabama at 3:30 p.m. (televised by ESPNU), and Cartersville will play Bertram Trail of Florida at 7:30 p.m. (televised by ESPN 2).
The telecasts are part of the seven-game GEICO ESPN High School Football Kickoff series. The other games are being played in Arizona, Nevada, Oklahoma, Florida and Pennsylvania.
Jones, rated by ESPN as the No. 22 overall prospect nationally, has committed to Ohio State. He’ll face off against Saraland’s Jack West, who is committed to Stanford. Saraland, located near Mobile, was a playoff team out of Alabama’s Class 6A last season. Heard County was 7-4 last season in AA.
Lawrence, the consensus No. 1 player in the country, has committed to Clemson. Cartersville’s opponent, Bartram Trail from near Jacksonville, was 8-5 last season in Florida’s Class 7A and features a national top-50 player, quarterback Joey Gatewood, who is committed to Auburn.
Cartersville is the two-time defending champion of Georgia’s Class AAAA.
Both matchups will be the second games of the season for Heard and Cartersville.
