–The Columbia Eagles will be looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season, when they host Lithonia on Friday. Columbia reached the championship game of the Chick-fil-A Holiday Invitational Classic, before falling to Tucker. Columbia had won the last two tournament titles.

Columbia is No. 1 in MaxPreps.com's Georgia AAAA boys rankings, followed by Fayette County, Rutland, Jonesboro and Statesboro.

–The Rutland Hurricanes put up 100 points in a win over Wilkinson County on Dec. 28. Senior guard Jaylon Tyson scored 30 points, connected on 13 of 15 free throws and had five steals to win MVP honors in the Wilkinson County Christmas TipOff.

–South Atlanta couldn’t keep up with the nation’s consensus No. 1 team, Montverde Academy (Fla.), in a 98-39 loss at the Wild Wing Café HS Hoops Classic in Charlotte, N.C. The Hornets also lost to Westlake (Ga.) in the tournament, but finished the trip with a 68-65 win over Lincoln High School out of Brooklyn, N.Y

–Statesboro is off to a 9-3 start that includes a tournament win at the Gentlemen’s Classic. The Blue Devils host Liberty County tonight.
