We're not quite finished with Week 4 in AA - No. 1 Fitzgerald plays at A-public's No. 1 Macon County on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. - but Friday featured winners and losers among ranked teams.
The No. 10 Heard County Braves reentered the rankings this week, but picked up their first loss of the season to A-private's No. 6 Darlington by a score of 28-14. The Braves took control early with a 14-0 lead but couldn't hold it. The loss should result in their second one-week stint in the rankings this season.
The No. 9 Model Blue Devils took exception to local media picking AAAA's Northwest Whitfield to beat them and took their frustrations out on the field, winning 34-27. Model is now 3-0.
The No. 4 Vidalia Indians dropped a spot in the rankings during a bye last week and will continue to slide after losing to AAAA's West Laurens Raiders 28-7. The Raiders have Vidalia's number as of late, winning for the second year in a row after 11 consecutive series wins by Vidalia.
Here's how the rest of the top 10 fared:
- No. 2 Benedictine rolled to a 33-6 win over AAA's Southeast Bulloch.
- No. 5 Jefferson County handled A-public's Washington-Wilkes with ease, winning 38-6.
- On Thursday, No. 6 Callaway beat AAAA's Columbus 28-7.
- No. 7 Rabun County beat AAAA's White County 49-7.
- No. 8 Dodge County likely joins Heard County in exiting the rankings, losing to AAA's Appling County 41-34.
On bye: No. 3 Brooks County.
