GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Kyle Adkins, Pope
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "I have been fortunate enough to have played for a state championship at Americus High School (1997) and coached for a state championship as an assistant at Ware County (2007). Unfortunately, I have lost both times. In 1997, we played a great Washington County team led by future UGA great Terrence Edwards. We were up 21-0 on a brutally cold night and ended up losing that game 22-21 when Edwards took the ball in for two on a fake PAT. In 2007, we were in a tight one with a great Northside-Warner Robins team. We forced a fumble late in the fourth quarter, scooped and scored, were celebrating - then a flag appeared. We ended up losing 20-14 - heartbreaker."
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "Jeff Herron, Prince Avenue Christian. The man personifies class and has won everywhere he has ever coached."
3. What is your favorite saying/motto? "You're either coaching it, or you're allowing it to happen."
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "I will be very interested to see what the GHSA decides about the 'Super' classification. I think this decision could have a huge impact on the larger schools in the state. At Pope, we are currently at around 1,980 students, making us one of the smaller schools in AAAAAA. Easily we could match up in the playoffs with a school like Mill Creek, whose school has close to 4,000 students. It seems apparent that something needs to change."
