Sequoyah and Appling County scored two of the biggest upsets of the first round of the state playoffs, each beating a 10-0 team. Sequoyah beat Lanier 24-21, and Appling County beat Peach County 14-7. Sequoyah became only the second school since 1996, when the playoffs expanded to 32 teams in each class, to have two victories over 10-0 teams. The Chiefs also beat 10-0 Tucker 17-0 in 2001.
