Buford, Calhoun and St. Pius reached the state finals this season despite moving up in classification. That's unusual. Only 10 previous schools had accomplished that, five that won state titles. This list does not include schools that moved up largely or entirely as a result of GHSA expansion of classifications. For example, Buford made the AA final in 2011 and 2012 final in AAA, but that was a year in which the GHSA moved to six classifications from five. That has been achieved many times. The 2012 Gainesville and Lovejoy teams are included because those schools moved up two classifications.
