Class A Basketball: No. 2 SACA-ELCA girls, No. 10 NCC-Landmark boys headline weekend slate

GIRLS
No. 2 Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, Friday. After a loss to No. 1 St. Francis (51-42) on Jan. 10, SACA has won six straight by an average margin of victory of nearly 40 points per game. The Warriors (20-3, 9-0 in Region 5) recently dropped from No. 2 to No. 3 in the Georgia High Schools Association/MaxPreps Class A Private School Power Ratings, behind No. 1 St. Francis and No. 2 Savannah Country Day. SACA, which has a total roster of just eight players, is led by senior forwards Nicole Martin (20 points, 8 rebounds per game) and Shakyna Payne (17 points, 7 rebounds). ELCA (14-5, 7-1) has won 6 of its last 7, and has risen to No. 7 in the power ratings.

No. 10 North Cobb Christian at Landmark Christian, Saturday. North Cobb Christian’s 13-8 overall record isn’t impressive at first look. But the teams that have defeated the Eagles have a combined record of 126-29. The list includes two losses to Johnson-Gainesville (No. 2 in Class AAAA) as well as to Carrollton (No. 5 in AAAA), Jenkins (No. 2 in AAA) and Spain Park, one of the top teams in Alabama. North Cobb Christian, No. 6 in the power ratings, is led by 7-foot center Trey Kalina, who has signed with Chattanooga. The Eagles are undefeated (9-0) in Region 6. Landmark is unranked in the Atlanta Journal Constitution Top 10 but is No. 9 in the power ratings. The War Eagles (16-6, 8-3 in Region 5) are trying to snap a three-game losing streak. They are led by senior point guard Jackson Schultz (18 points, 6 assists), and junior forwards Zack Allen (20 points, 7 rebounds) and Eddie Windsor.
