Chattahoochee’s boys soccer team was one of last year’s surprises under coach Les Meenan. The Cougars are making noise early this year, too.

Chattahoochee is off to an 8-0 start and is ranked No. 1 by Eurosportscoreboard.com.

Meenan says they’re playing even better than they were last year, thanks to an influx of young defenders.

“We lost a few seniors. My whole defensive line pretty much left,” Meenan said. “We brought in a couple of younger kids have stepped up. Three sophomores are playing  huge parts of the team, and that’s great to see.”

Meenan pointed to goal keeper Jack Corrigan, defender Chris Spaid and midfielder Ryan Kapper as key contributors to the team’s early success.

“The boys are kind of shock that they’re doing so well,” Meenan added. “They’re playing really well. They’re playing better soccer than they played last year.”

Meenan says his team isn’t looking too far ahead and is focused on contending in difficult Region 6-AAAAAA, where John’s Creek and Alpharetta, along with the Cougars, are expected to be in the mix. Chattahoochee is at John's Creek on Tuesday.

“They want to win region,” Meenan said of his team. “That’s all they want to do. After that, it’s one game at a time.”
