Starr’s Mill sweeps Fayette County championships
The Starr’s Mill girls and boys teams are the best in Fayette County, after sweeping the championship meet. The boys team edged rival McIntosh, 186-180, with Whitewater finishing third with 176 points. The Panther girls claimed the title with 196 points, Fayette County was second with 178 and McIntosh placed third with 118.
The Starr’s Mill girls were paced by Alexis Farley, who won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.04, the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, ¼ inches, and the triple jump with a 38-8 ¾. Also, Mary Valli won the 1,600 in a time of 5:35.67, while Jolene Berthold, Sydney Neilsen and Abigail Dickinson finished first, second and third, respectively, in the pole vault.
The Panther boys were led by Taylor Brunskole, who swept the hurdle events, running a 15.02 in the 110-meter hurdles and a 40.63 in the 300-meter hurdles. Also, brothers Michael and Ben Runyan finished first and second, respectively, in the pole vault, and Cody Clements and Noel Fuller placed, first and second, respectively, in the high jump.
North boys, South girls win Paulding County titles
In Paulding County, the North Paulding boys and South Paulding girls took home championships. The Paulding County boys took second, followed by South Paulding. On the girls side, North Paulding took second and Paulding County was third.
The North Paulding boys were led by thrower Seth Whitener, who won the discus with toss of 155-11 ½ and place second in the shot put. The Raiders also claimed individual championships in the triple jump by Brandon Malcolm (43-4) with Oliver Eliezer placing second (38-4 ½), Dale Craig won the 200 meters (23.32), Ryne Bevan won the 400 meters (50.08) and the 800 meters (2:07.77), with Drew Whiten placing second (2:10.19). Mac Power won the 1,600 meters (4:49.82) and Whiten picked up another second place finish in that event (4:56.51). Also, the Raiders’ 1,600-meter relay team took first in 3:32.94.
The South Paulding girls were led by sophomore Tionna Fant, who won the 200 (26.04) and 400 (1:00.31) meters, with Kahliyah Smith placing second in the 200 and Heavven Singleton finishing second in the 400. Smith won the 100 in 12.42, and Tizhane Brooks placed second in 12.88. Jazmine Burse swept the hurdle events, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 15.20 and the 300-meter hurdles in 51.05. The Spartans swept the relays, winning the 400-meter relay with a time of 49.70 and the 1,600-meter relay in 4:19.76. Erika Earwood won titles in the shot put (33-9) and discus (88-7), with Angel Hyde placing second (71-07), and Katie Wagner won the pole vault.
Cherokee girls, Etowah boys win Cherokee titles
The Cherokee boys and Etowah girls dominated the Cherokee County Championships with both teams scoring 178 points. The Etowah boys (101) were second and Sequoyah (64) was third. On the girls side, Woodstock (111) was second and Sequoyah (60) was third.
The Etowah girls were led by Leena Morris, who won the discus (136-7) and the shot put (42-10 ½), Kingsley Green won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters with Macki Walsh finishing second in that event, Jayda Owens won the 100 meters, and the Eagles swept the relays with a 51.79 in the 400-meter relay and a 4:17.99 in the 1,600-meter relay. Also, Tatiyana Rayford had an outstanding meet for Woodstock, winning the 100-meter hurdles (14.45), the 300-meter hurdles (45.60) and the long jump (17-8).
For the Cherokee County boys, Dwayne Tiller and Travis Head finished first and second, respectively, in the discus and the shot put, while Chris Vines swept the 100 and 200 meter events, Ryan Worsham won the 110-meter hurdles and the Warriors swept the relays with a 43.12 in the 400-meter relay and a 3:34.19 in the 1,600-meter relay.
