AA in brief: No change in rankings

The updated Class AA top 10 is in but there are no updates to it. Every team maintained its ranking from the previous week, and for good reason. The seven ranked teams that played on Friday won by an average of 52-15 and produced two shutouts, two teams that scored more than 70 points, another that scored more than 60 and one that topped 50.

Simply put, it was a dominating week for AA's top 10 teams.

• Rabun County's Bailey Fisher was named WDUN's Player of the Week. Here is the outlet's profile of Fisher, who is on the GHSFD/AJC Player of the Year watch list .
• Fisher's 62-yard touchdown pass to Cole Keener was named Blitz's Play of the Week .
• Last week's weather put a damper on the week for many football programs. The Rome News-Tribune's Tommy Romanach profiles several 7-AA schools and how they dealt with the disruption.
• WJCL profiled Benedictine's navigation of inclement weather.
• WJCL  also has the highlights of Friday's Benedictine-Swainsboro thriller.
• On Monday, Benedictine coach Danny Britt was honored by the school with a plaque commemorating his 100th career win
• Seth Ellerbee profiles Thomasville coach Zach Grage following his Atlanta Falcons Coach of the Week honor.
• Speaking of Thomasville, yet another single-game school record was broken last week. Kevin Cochran set a new mark for longest touchdown reception at 90 yards. Earlier this season, the Bulldogs' kicker twice set the field goal record and their quarterback broke the passing yards record.
• Callaway has a reputation of producing Division I talent, and its current roster is filled prospects led by D.J. Atkins (RB), Keiondre Jones (OL) and Lichon Terrell (DL). Kevin Eckleberry of the LaGrange Daily News profiles Callaway talent that's gone on to the next level.
• Another Callaway player, Jonathan Leonard, made a phenomenal interception and returned it 70 yards for a score.
• Washington County posted its first win of the season in dramatic fashion with a 49-48 overtime win over Evans, marking the 100th career win for Golden Hawks coach Joel Ingram. Scott Michaux has the game story for The Augusta Chronicle.
• WJBF recaps the Washington County game and other AA matchups here .
• WJBF named Harlem teammates Quest Caines and AJ Brown as Players of the Game after Harlem's 37-16 win over Glenn Hills in the Bulldogs' Region 4 opener. The Bulldogs are 3-1.
• Model coach Gordon Powers was honored by his alma mater on Saturday along with the rest of his 1977 Austin Peay teammates to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their Ohio Valley Conference championship — the only in school history. Elbert County coach Sid Fritts was also a member of that team.
• Model is salty over a late-fourth quarter call in which a Dade County player was ruled down before fumbling. So much so that the Blue Devils posted a video of the play and held a fan vote seeking outside opinions of the play. The Blue Devils wound up losing to Dade County 28-21 to drop to 0-4. This time last year they were 4-0 on the way to a 7-3 regular season and playoff appearance.
