For the first time this season, there are no new No. 1 teams in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s high school basketball rankings. The 12 teams at the top each went undefeated for the past week.
The girls rankings were especially tranquil. There were no changes to the top five in any classification. The only top-five team to lose was Class AAAAAA Archer, which held its spot at No. 5 despite losing for the second time this season to No. 3 Parkview, 49-46 in a Region 8 game. There were no changes to the AAAAAA top 10.
In AAAAA, Greenbrier moved up a spot to No. 9 after a 71-47 victory over Cross Creek, which fell from No. 7 to No. 10. Marist and Redan swapped place at No. 7 and No. 8 in Class AAAA after Marist’s 44-31 victory over the Raiders.
In AAA, Decatur held onto the No. 5 spot in AAA after a 45-40 victory over Westminster, which climbed one spot to No. 8. They fell only two spots to No. 5. Collins Hill lost two Region 7 games and fell out of the rankings, replaced by Dacula.
Columbia’s boys, who have made the state finals each of the past nine seasons, nearly dropped out of the rankings. They landed at No. 9 in AAAA after a loss to Grady. Columbia is 13-7 and in fourth place in Region 6.
Pace Academy of AA had the toughest game among No. 1 teams, winning 68-66 against No. 3 Holy Innocents’.
