St. Pius superstar Asia Durr scored a school-record 53 points in a win over Redan on Tuesday.
Durr, the program’s all-time scoring leader, has 2,505 point heading into tonight’s regular-season finale against Marist. The Golden Lions are 106-13 during Durr’s career, have won 75 straight region games during the regular season and have won the last two state championships.
“There’s a reason she comes up big in critical moments,” Snipes said. “She works harder than she plays and should be someone all younger players in our program emulate in their work ethic.”
While Durr is undoubtedly the Lions’ leading force, she’s had help during St. Pius’ impressive run.
“This senior class used the foundation set by the classes of 2012 and 2013 to really elevate our program to the heights it enjoyed under (former coaches) Stephanie Dunn and Ron Sattele,” Snipes added. “That was led not only by Asia, but Adriana Daves, Miah Allen, Obi Okafor and Sally Varner, all of which have been playing together since seventh grade. In addition, our starting point guard Sabrina Thomas has not only done a good job being a floor leader but also an emotional leader for our squad since her sophomore year.”
The third-ranked Golden Lions have already clinched the Region 6-AAAA title.
