For Throwback Thursday Friday No. 6 (sorry, I thought I'd posted it Thursday night, we're going to do a little better than last week's pennant and poster from Georgia Tech's 1990 national championship season. Among the Tech items held by the College Football Hall of Fame is Tech great and hall of famer George Morris' letter jacket.

Morris was a first-team All-American linebacker for the 1952 national championship team and led the Jackets to a 23-0-1 record in his junior and senior seasons. He was inducted into the hall of fame in 1981. Morris’ coach, Bobby Dodd, called the 1952 team the best he had ever coached.

After Tech, he served three years in the U.S. Army and then played briefly in the NFL. He later served as an SEC football official from 1960-89. He died of an apparent heart attack in Dec. 2007. He was 76.

Morris donated the letter jacket to the hall of fame upon his induction, as all inductees have been asked to contribute an item or items to the hall.

I couldn’t find an image online, but the jacket is fairly similar to those awarded to letter winners today. I believe the gold is darker on the current jackets, the leather sleeves are different and I don’t think they’re button up, but the overall look is similar.
