The sportsbooks have assigned a rather large number to the Georgia Tech-Georgia game. The Bulldogs opened as 14.5-point favorites over the Yellow Jackets Sunday, although it had been reduced to 12.5 as of Monday morning.

As you might deduce, it doesn’t bode well for the Jackets on the field. Under coach Paul Johnson, Tech has taken the field as a double-digit underdog six times and lost all six games. In three of those games, though, Tech was competitive and perhaps a play or two from winning each.

Further, Tech has won all three games this season in which it was the underdog, Virginia Tech (+7.5), Pittsburgh (+3.5) and Clemson (+1.5). (Lines from covers.com)

The win over Virginia Tech represented the largest upset (by point spread) that the Jackets have achieved since Johnson’s hire. Tech has won four times as a 7.5-point underdog.
