Recapping the loss to Pittsburgh

Georgia Tech must avoid a hangover following the loss to Pittsburgh . It was the Jackets' third consecutive loss. It would optimistic to say that Tech is through the easy part of its schedule. Optimistic and wrong. Virginia Tech is playing well. North Carolina is always a shootout, which Tech may not be able to win. Virginia and Duke would seem like wins, but nothing is going to be easy for the Yellow Jackets for this season .

Scouting the opponent: Georgia Southern

It seems that after losing back-to-back games there are some that are already unhappy with first-year coach Tyson Summers .

ACC power poll

It’s week 2 of the all-important for ACC football power poll, which I’m sure will play a pivotal role in determining the seedings for the college football playoff...just as soon as someone knows that it's being done.

Team (last week): Comment.

  1. Clemson (1): The Tigers (6-0, 3-0) had an off week in a win against Boston College. Next: vs. N.C. State
  2. Louisville (2): They (4-1, 2-1) were off last week. Next: vs. Duke on Friday.
  3. Florida State (6): Well, the Seminoles' (4-2, 1-2) win over Miami was nice. The officiating in the game was not. Next: vs. Wake Forest.
  4. Virginia Tech (5): Bud Foster has the Hokies' (4-1, 2-0) defense rolling again. Next: vs. at Syracuse.
  5. North Carolina (3): What happened to the Tar Heels (4-2, 2-1) in the loss to Virginia Tech? Next: at Miami.
  6. Miami (4): Losing because of a blocked point-after attempt is the same feeling as trying to sit through the presidential debates. Sickening, confusing and numbing for the Hurricanes (4-1, 1-1). Next: vs. North Carolina.
  7. Pittsburgh (8): Watch out for the Panthers (4-2, 1-1) , who were solid in defeating Georgia Tech. Next: at Virginia.
  8. N.C. State (9): It's still hard to figure out if this team (4-1, 1-0) is any good. Next: at Clemson.
  9. Wake Forest (10): Folks are actually talking about the Demon Deacons (5-1, 2-1) becoming bowl eligible. Talk about weird. Next: at FSU.
  10. Georgia Tech (7): More bizarre plays doomed Tech (3-3, 1-3) to another loss. It's been a weird for weeks for the Jackets. Next: vs. Georgia Southern
  11. Duke (11): The Blue Devils (3-3, 0-2) defeated Army. Next: Off.
  12. Virginia (12): They (2-3, 1-0) were off last week. Next: vs. Pittsburgh.
  13. Syracuse (13): Losing to Wake Forest on the road isn't a good sign for the Orange (2-4, 0-2). Next: vs. Virginia Tech.
  14. Boston College (14): The Eagles (3-3, 0-3) are starting at another possible 0-fer in ACC play. Next: Off.

Here are some of the more interesting tweets sent during Saturday's games. You can follow me on twitter @DougRobersonAJC, or Ken Sugiura at @ksugiuraajc:

Basketball rebounds

If you missed it, Josh Pastner has picked the brains of numerous business leaders on what he needs to now to establish the type of culture he wants at Georgia Tech . My best business advice has always been "Buy high, sell low." Wait…I think I just realized what I've been doing wrong.

Ben Lammers is excited to be at the top of the food chain . Considering the projections for Tech in the ACC this season, he should enjoy being there while he can.

Recruiting Rewind

Jordan Nwora included Tech in his list of schools of interest . He's a 6-8 senior from Buffalo, N.Y. It's a pretty good list of schools…

Kobe Brown, a point guard from Huntsville, Ala. , visited Tech. He's a four-star recruit.

Rome running back Jalynn Sykes was offered by Tech. He's a three-star recruit.

Gentry Bonds, who has already committed to Tech , visited the Institute. He's a cornerback from Murfreesboro, Tenn. Should he one day decide to become a country singer, he's already got a great name for it.

Tre Moore, a defensive lineman from Johnson, S.C. , visited Tech last week.

Other stuff

Georgia Tech is going to host the ACC's swimming and diving championships . I believe they will be at the pool. I'm working on confirming that.

Atlanta United, which will begin play in Major League Soccer in 2017 , will play its home games at Bobby Dodd Stadium until Mercedes-Benz Stadium opens. Here are answers to a few of the questions you sent about that news.
