Five Georgia Tech athletes earned All-American status for exemplary seasons this past academic year. A look at each.
Christoper Eubanks, men's tennis. Eubanks was named Tech's first tennis All-American since 2013 and the 15th in team history after winning ACC player of the year honors and finishing the season ranked No. 6 in the country. He was 34-7 in singles play and 11-1 in ACC matches at No. 1 singles.
Matthew Gorst, baseball. Gorst set a school record with a 0.55 ERA in 49 innings with a .174 opponent batting average. Named a second-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, he was Tech's first baseball All-American since 2013 and the 89th in coach Danny Hall's tenure. He was drafted by Boston in the 12th round.
Brad Homza, men's diving. The junior earned honorable mention All-America honors with an 11th-place finish on the 1-meter board at the NCAA championships (held at Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center). Homza also was the ACC champion on the 10-meter platform.
Bria Matthews, women's track and field. A freshman, Matthews finished seventh in the long jump at the NCAA indoor track and field championships in March. Matthews also won the ACC indoor triple jump and long jump and the ACC outdoor triple jump and qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials in the triple jump.
Aaliyah Whiteside, women's basketball. The senior was named honorable mention All-America by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the sixth in team history to earn All-America status. Whiteside led the ACC in scoring with 19.5 points per game and also averaging 7.2 rebounds per game.
