At its season-ending team banquet Friday night, Georgia Tech honored seniors and gave awards to five Yellow Jackets for their contributions to the season.

Offensive lineman Gary Brown was named offensive scout-team player of the year and defensive lineman Jabari Hunt-Days was named defensive scout-team player of the year. B-back Matt Connors was named special-teams player of the year.

Guard Trey Braun and safety Isaiah Johnson received the offensive and defensive effort awards.

Players and coaches have touted Brown and Hunt-Days’ work on their scout teams in preparing Tech's offense and defense for upcoming opponents. Earlier in the season, guard Shaquille Mason said that Hunt-Days, who is not playing due to academic ineligibility, was the best player he had faced this season.

“I know this,” linebacker coach Andy McCollum said in November of Brown. “When you’re on defense and you’re lined up against him, you’d better get ready, because he’s coming to get somebody.”

Connors blocked a punt against Tulane and was twice named special-teams player of the week, after that game and also after the Pittsburgh game.

Braun and Johnson have often received praise for the leadership and effort they have provided. Johnson made one of the plays of the season, giving up his body in the Georgia game to force Georgia running back Nick Chubb to fumble on the goal line to save a touchdown.

Tech’s seniors received plaques and also trophies, presented by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, for the win over Georgia. The hospital presents the annual Governor’s Cup trophy to the winner of the Tech-Georgia game.
