Editor's note: Prior to the start of the new league year on March 10, AJC.Com is counting down the top unrestricted free agents the Atlanta Falcons must decide on this offseason. At the combine general manager Thomas Dimitroff stated that team meet with agents for linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, special teamer Eric Weems and nose tackle Corey Peters.
FLOWERY BRANCH – In an attempt to improve the nickel back Josh Wilson was signed last season and safety Charles Godfrey was added as injuries started to mount at the safety position.
Both were consummate professionals.
Wilson, the son of former Houston Oilers running back Tim Wilson (Earl Campbell’s fullback), lost the nickel back battle to Robert McClain.
Godfrey, who opened the season with the Carolina Panthers, was basically an insurance policy.
Josh Wilson, fourth-year veteran
The skinny: Likely unrestricted free agent
The snaps: He played 458 snaps (123 against the run, 322 against the pass. He blitzed 13 times.
The stats: He finished with 29 tackles and one quarterback hit.
2014 salary: $855, base salary, plus $65,000 signing bonus.
Charles Godfrey, seven-year veteran
The skinny: Likely unrestricted free agent
The snaps: He did not play any snaps from scrimmage.
The stats: He didn't record any stats.
2014 salary: $386,471 base salary.
