The team has been hit with a stomach flu that kept several players, including top draft pick Vic Bealey and wide receiver Justin Hardy, out of practice.
Also, running back Devonta Freeman went down with a hamstring injury during the practice.
“Some of those guys had the stomach flu, hopefully, we’ll have them back tonight for the walk through,” Quinn said. “I think everybody is on their way back up.”
Quinn hopes to get Freeman back soon.
“He is an absolute competitor,” Quinn said. “Just every day he brings it. He stands for a lot of stuff I love about our team: attitude, intensity and toughness. All those are traits that you look for and he brings them every day.”
Here are some of the highlights and lowlights from practice:
HIGHLIGHTS
--During the one-on-one drills, rookie cornerback Akeem King was able to run stride for stride with speedy wide receiver Bernard Reedy on two deep routes.
--Cornerback Desmond Trufant had a pass breakup while covering Eric Weems, but was called for interference. (BTW: The DBs didn’t think they were getting a fair shake from the refs and demanded that they “call it both ways.”)
--With the Falcons down 6, Matt Ryan led the offense down the field with 57 seconds left in the game and two timeout. He tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jacob Tamme with 10.1 seconds left for the victory. Tamme got open on safety Kemal Ishmael. On the second unit, Sean Renfree's pass from the 10-yard to Nick Williams with 3.2 seconds left sailed incomplete.
--Musical chairs along the offensive line continued with Jake Matthews at left tackle, Tyler Polumbus at left guard, Joe Hawley at center, Chris Chester at right guard and Ryan Schraeder at right tackle.
LOWLIGHTS
--Running back Devonta Freeman leaving practice with a hamstring injury (See above).
--Wide receiver Roddy White made a nice catch on a slant pattern, but cornerback Phillips Adams didn’t give up on the play. He came up and knocked the ball out for a fumble.
--Second-round pick Jalen Collins is still getting used to the speed of the pro game. Leonard Hankerson beat Collins on a deep ball. Assistant coach Marquand Manual offered up some pointers after the play.
--Collins, who had a rough day, was beat by Devin Hester on a double-move route, too.
