Delta Air Lines said preliminary reports indicate its employees are safe and accounted for after a shooting Friday at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The shooting occurred in the Fort Lauderdale airport's baggage claim area at Terminal 2, where Delta operates.

"We're grateful to the first responders on the scene who immediately went into action to evacuate our customers and employees," said Delta CEO Ed Bastian in a written statement. The airline is working with local law enforcement.

Here in Atlanta, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport officials plan to have greater visibility of law enforcement in the terminal and concourses.

“At Hartsfield-Jackson, we maintain a constant security posture of hyper vigilance and will continue to do so in light of the attack at Ft. Lauderdale’s airport," said Atlanta airport spokesman Reese McCranie in a written statement. "As always, if you see something suspicious, approach a member of law enforcement or call 911.”

Bastian said Delta employees in Fort Lauderdale and elsewhere are working to re-accommodate passengers there.

Travelers flying to and from Fort Lauderdale Friday should expect disruptions, and should check their flight status, according to Delta. The airline will waive certain change fees for travelers who may be affected and want to change their plans.
