Weather should cooperate Tuesday for voters standing in line at polling places.
After a chilly start in the 40s, temperatures are headed for the upper 60s this afternoon under a mostly sunny sky, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. The projected high is 68 degrees in Atlanta, where races for mayor, city council and school board will be decided Tuesday.
“Just have that heavier coat if you are going to get out and vote early when those polls open right at 7 a.m.,” Monahan said. “You can see your breath this morning. It is a chilly start to the day — definitely a day to layer it up.”
While a coat is warranted Tuesday morning, Monahan said voters can leave their umbrellas at home. There is no rain in the forecast for Election Day. Monahan expects a few more clouds to fill the sky than on Monday, however.
Temperatures will drop back into the mid-50s by 8 p.m., when the Braves take on the Astros in Houston for another shot at a World Series win. Truist Park will host a watch party for fans inside the stadium, which is scheduled to open at 6:30 p.m.
Ticket prices start at $10 and can be purchased online through Ticketmaster. All seating is open and will be first come, first served, the team said. The first pitch at Minute Maid Park is scheduled for 8:09 p.m.
“There will be some clouds around, but no rain out at Truist Park for the watch party for Game 6,” Monahan said. “Bundle up, though. It will be chilly with temperatures in the 40s and low 50s.”

He expects temperatures to bottom out in the 40s overnight in Atlanta, and the mountains could be waking up to numbers in the 30s Wednesday morning. A breeze will keep things cooler Wednesday, with Atlanta predicted to reach a high of 59 degrees, according to Monahan.
Showers will make their return to the region by Wednesday evening, he said. Showers are 10% likely Wednesday but 40% likely Thursday for an even cooler day with a projected high of just 51 degrees.

The crash was moved to shoulder past Ga. 138, but traffic remains heavy through the area.
There are also “big jams” in Gwinnett County, where a crash on Ga. 316 was blocking at least one westbound lane, the Traffic Center reported at 6:30 a.m. Commuters can take U.S. 29 out of Dacula.
