Atlanta is headed for a high of 75 degrees Tuesday as the city dries out from showers the day before, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Nearly one inch of rain fell in metro Atlanta on Monday. There are a few showers lingering Tuesday morning in the northeast Georgia mountains, but for the most part the rain is over and done, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
For now, that is. After Tuesday, there is a chance of showers in the forecast each and every day for the rest of the week, he said.
“We’ve got some nice weather in the forecast today,” Monahan said. “I know that’s hard to believe if you step outside this morning. A little damp, a little foggy outside, you can feel that humidity out here, but by the afternoon we’re going to have sunshine and we’re going to have temperatures that get up into the 70s.”
Monahan expects any showers left behind to diminish through the morning hours. The city is mild to start the day with temperatures in the mid-50s. The entire region will be in short sleeves and shorts later Tuesday with a projected high of 75 degrees under a clearing sky.
“It’s going to feel like springtime weather across North Georgia ,” Monahan said.
Clouds will start to increase Tuesday night ahead of the next round of rain, he said. The system is already developing to the west and producing severe weather in the middle part of the country, but Monahan said no storms will be severe when it arrives in North Georgia.
“There’s going to be some heavier rain moving in tonight into the North Georgia mountains,” he said. “That should weaken by the time it gets into metro Atlanta, but a few showers are possible in town as we get started early tomorrow morning, and then another warm day tomorrow.”
After a 30% chance of showers and a start in the 60s, Atlanta is expected to warm into mid-70s yet again Wednesday afternoon. Thursday could be the warmest day this week with a projected high of 77, which is 17 degrees above average and two below the record set in 2018.
By the weekend, Monahan expects temperatures to return to seasonable levels with highs in the low 60s Saturday.
While there is a chance of rain each day in North Georgia, the mountains counties are expected to bear the brunt of it. A flood watch is scheduled to go into effect Tuesday evening for Catoosa, Dade, Fannin, Gilmer, Murray, Walker and Whitfield counties and remain in place through Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Pavement could be wet in spots Tuesday morning, which could contribute to early slowdowns on metro Atlanta interstates. There are no major delays just before sunrise, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Expect a tap of the brakes on the Northside as MARTA track replacement continues in the center of Ga. 400. Northbound lanes have been shifted on Ga. 400 leaving I-285, the Traffic Center reported.
Red line service is suspended south of the Dunwoody station through the end of service Wednesday, according to the transit agency. Lenox station will be the transfer point for red line shuttle service.
