North Georgia can look forward to a few more days of warm, dry weather before rain settles in for the weekend and ushers in cooler air.
After a stretch of 80-degree days this week, it certainly hasn’t felt like fall, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. More of the same is in the forecast Thursday and Friday.
“We’re going to be in the low to mid-80s today and tomorrow,” Monahan said. “That is not normal for the middle part of October. But 70 degrees on Saturday, that’s going to be a change.”
Monahan said showers in the forecast Saturday morning will help to cool things down. Behind the rain, cooler and drier air will move in, contributing to more seasonal lows in the upper 40s and low 50s for Sunday morning, he said.
On Thursday morning, temperatures are in the 60s in metro Atlanta. Monahan said higher humidity is contributing to some areas of dense fog, which could cause visibility issues for the morning drive. Visibility dropped below a half-mile in the mountains before sunrise.
Later Thursday, the city is expected to reach 83 degrees under a partly cloudy sky. There will be no need for an umbrella Thursday or Friday, although Monahan said there could be more cloud cover to end the work week. Saturday will require a little more consideration, he said.
“If you’ve got plans for the first half of the day — maybe you’re headed out to Athens for that big game with Kentucky — make sure you have an umbrella,” he said. “There will be some showers around early on Saturday morning. By the afternoon, though, we’re going to be drying out.”
The rain will come and go, but the cooler weather will have some sticking power. Monahan expects highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s and 50s through the middle of next week.
