It might be wise to get your outdoor Fourth of July festivities underway early today.

The recent trend of midafternoon storms is expected to continue on the eve of the holiday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.

She said Sunday’s weather conditions will be a “carbon copy” of the hot and humid mix of clouds, scattered showers and sunshine metro Atlanta saw Saturday.

“So have an indoor backup if you’re going to be doing some outdoor grilling, having a backyard barbecue,” Deon said. “Whatever you’re planning on doing outside, make sure you have the rain gear with you and just keep a watchful eye out.”

The overnight low will see temperatures dip to 72 degrees in Atlanta before rising to a high of 89 for the second day in a row.

Much like Saturday, the morning could produce areas of patchy fog, Deon anticipated. There will be a combination of sunshine and clouds otherwise.

“Once we get past the lunch hour, that’s when those scattered showers and storms will start to erupt,” she said.

The rain could start to pour a little earlier in some pockets, but the showers should begin to settle down as we head into the evening.

The holiday will bring even more of the same, with a good chance of afternoon storms to interrupt the mugginess of a projected high of 89, Deon said. However, the morning’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race should have nice skies with temperatures already heading into the 70s by the time the event kicks off.
